The HVAF system AK-07 (Kermetico, Benicia USA) works with a continuous propane combustion. The fuel/propane mixture is burned in a combustion chamber and accelerated to supersonic velocity in a laval nozzle. While doing that, the spray material which is injected axially to the combustion chamber, is accelerated towards the substrate. The usage of liquid fuel and compressed air leads to a very economical process that can achieve high deposition rates. The HVAF process is used in particular for the production of very dense, hard and low-oxide coatings based on metal-matrix composite materials such as Cermets.
