The lecture Surface Engineering Part 1 provides an insight into the field of technical surfaces. This course will teach the structure and functions of coatings in technical applications as well as in daily life. It will furthermore present the potential and possibilities of coating analysis technology. The lecture and tutorial describe complex systems and coating effects related to the fields of tribology, corrosion and high-temperature corrosion. These are frequently supported by application-oriented examples. Finally, the lecture will explain functions and practical applications of technically relevant coating technologies such as electroplating, physical vapour deposition, brazing, welding and thermal spraying. A deeper insight into the production and analysis of coatings is provided by a guided tour through the institute subsequent to the lectures and tutorials.
