The IOT conducts active research and development work in the fields of PVD/CVD technology and thermal spraying, build-up welding, brazing and solder deposition, as well as in the modelling and simulation of these processes.
For the individual technologies, materials science fundamentals are developed and implemented in applied materials technologies from the project idea through complete system solutions to pilot series production. This is always done in close cooperation with industrial companies. In addition to materials development, process optimization, process and quality assurance, our services include the development and application of coating and soldering systems. The spectrum of materials to be processed ranges from pure metals, metal alloys, intermetallic materials and hard metals to oxide and special ceramics, cermets, hard materials, hard alloys, fiber-reinforced materials and plastics.
The institute comprises a total of six research and development areas:
