Nanoindenter Hysitron TI 950
The nanoindentation method is used to determine the mechanical properties of indentation hardness HIT and indentation modulus EIT of materials. This method is particularly suitable for the analysis of thin coatings without substrate influence with coating thicknesses s ≤ 10 µm, in which the nanomeasuring head is used. For higher loads, the Nanoindenter TI 950 is also equipped with a micromeasuring head. A Berkovich diamond indents into the sample with constant or increasing load. The applied force and the resulting indentation depth are recorded. Based on this data, a force-indentation depth-curve can be plotted, from which the indentation hardness HIT and the indentation modulus EIT can be calculated. The indentation hardness HIT is determined by the quotient of the maximum force and the projected indentation area of the indenter. The indentation modulus EIT of the material or thin coating is determined in the upper third of the relief curve by the rigidity corresponding to the inclination of the relief curve.
