With the Potentiostat/Galvanostat Reference 600+, polarization curves and impedance spectra can be measured in accordance with DIN 50918 and DIN EN ISO 16773 respectively. Using these methods, the corrosion behaviour of metallic materials as well as conductive and non-conductive coatings can be analysed. The potentiostat is used in combination with a three electrode cell, see Figure. The considered sample is used as the working electrode and electrically connected with a counter electrode via a potential source. The measurement of the electrochemical potential is conducted against a reference electrode (standard calomel electrode, SCE). The ion exchange between the reference electrode and the bulk electrolyte is controlled by an electrolyte bridge and two glass frits.
