Brazing Technology
The brazing process allows to join almost all metals and ceramics with each other, even when using different kind of material. Such process has an extremely wide range of applications, which reaches from the automotive, aviation and aerospace industry to the biotechnology industry, electronics industry, chemical apparatus engineering and microsystems technology till the trade industries as well as wear protection in general engineering and in the production of construction machines. Brazing focuses on the development of temperature and corrosion-resistant brazing alloys for high-performance materials, such as ceramics, super alloys, steels, titanium alloys and high-alloyed aluminium materials, and the process optimisation of low- and high-temperature brazing furnaces, inductive heating. Furthermore, specialised joining processes such as Reactive Air Brazing, wide-gap joint brazing and TLP bonding are the basis of research and study. Another research topic at Surface Engineering Institute is the potential of the surface brazing, which has yet industrial application in the production of tooling with carbide inserts and shows a considerable potential in other fields.
